The Southland Water Agency is dedicated to providing a sustainable, high quality and cost-effective supply of Lake Michigan water to the Chicago Southland region in a fair and transparent manner for all of its customer communities.
It will accomplish this mission by constructing a new water intake crib into Lake Michigan in Northwest Indiana, shorewell facilities, a raw water pumping station and transmission pipeline to Illinois, a new water treatment plant, and finished water distribution system to south suburban communities.
SWA will be capable of extending cost-effective potable water service to nearly 30 economically disadvantaged Cook County, IL communities in 2027-28
